Artesa Winery Hike and Tasting

HBS/Kellogg Joint Event

Join your friends, family, and the General Manager of Artesa / wine expert for a morning hike and private tour through the vineyards. At 10:30 am, we will meet at the Carneros Ranch House (located near the entrance) to the Artesa Winery Vineyards for juice and bagels. Then grab a bottle of water for a 3 mile hike through the vineyard. The hike will meander through the Pinot Noir vineyards, climb up to the Carneros Chardonnay vineyard, and reward those who make it to the top with a view of Artesa winery that only employees, vineyard workers and the sheep enjoy. By lunch, we will head back to the winery and congregate in the private Artesa Courtyard where will enjoy a light lunch and be hosted through a tasting of Artesa wines. Included in the tasting will be a sample of the Carneros Chardonnay, grown in the vineyards toured during the hike. This Chardonnay just received a 90 point score from The Wine Spectator.

The Winery:

Artesa opened as Codorniu Napa in 1991. Built by the Raventos family of Barcelona, owners of Codorniu in Spain’s Catalonia region, the winery brought the family’s 450-year winemaking heritage and 125-year history as one of Europe’s leading methode champenoise producers to the Napa Valley.

Designed by renowned Barcelona architect Domingo Triay and executed by Napa Valley architect Earl R. Bouligny, the dramatic, avant-garde winery was incorporated into the hills of a 350-acre estate overlooking the Carneros region.
Resident artist Gordon Huether exhibits works in various media, including glass and metal, throughout the visitor center, and his six sculptures surround the main fountain. A large bronze by Spanish sculptor Marcel Martí stands in the front reflecting pool. The sculpture of the Madonna and child in the courtyard by an unknown Catalan artist is a reproduction; the original resides in the Rondel Cellars in Spain. Reproductions of turn-of-the-century poster art commissioned by Codorniu with the leading Spanish artists of the day hang in the mezzanine stairwell.

Date: Saturday, June 6th at 10:30AM (for the hike) and 12:00PM (for the wine tasting)
